There are 2 clusters of islands in the archipelago, the inner and the outer islands. The inner islands of Seychelles are the oldest granite islands on earth. There are 41 islands in this cluster, with the largest one being Mahe.
In the Seychelles, each island offers its own distinct charm and allure. From the main island of Mahé, with its stunning beaches like Beau Vallon and Anse Royale, to the exquisite private islands of Praslin and La Digue, there is an island to suit every type of traveler.
Praslin is famous for its UNESCO-listed Vallée de Mai, where you can walk among the rare coco de mer palms. There so many scenic bays for anchoring and plenty of spectacular beaches, amongst which you should visit Anse La Blague, Anse Lazio, Anse Marie-Louise, Anse a la Farine, Anse Petite Cour and Baie Chevalier.
On La Digue, be transported back in time as you explore the island by bicycle and discover picturesque beaches like Anse Source d’Argent, known for its unique granite boulders and turquoise waters.
There are plenty spots for safe anchorage on Mahe, with over 65 beaches and bays to choose from, depending on the wind direction. Among the scenic bays you can anchor are Anse Royale, Anse Soleil, Baie Lazare, Baie Ternay, Port Launay and Beau Vallon.
Just outside Eden Island where the main Marina in Mahe is, there is a group of islands that can be the first stop when leaving Mahe. On the way to Praslin or on the return you need to stop at the 2 small islands Cousin and Cousine.
The weather in Seychelles is always nice 🙂 Almost every day is a sunny day with no extreme weather. The temperature varies between 24 and 32 ºC (75-90 ºF). The prevailing wind from October to March is North West and on average is 8-12kts. For the rest of the year, the direction changes to South East and it increases to 12-20kts, just perfect sailing conditions 🙂
The time with most rain are mid December to February. You can have a little rain in any day, but it is going to last for 15-30 mins tops and it’s a warm rain, great feelings when diving in the sea.
Once you get to Seychelles you will be amazed by the local Creole cuisine. There is a great blend between African, Chinese and Indian spices and add to this the subtleties of French kitchen. And of course fish and sea food are the main ingredient, accompanied by a variety of local fresh fruits.
The Seychelles is also home to some of the world’s most exclusive resorts, offering luxurious accommodations, private beaches, and unparalleled service. In the unlikely event that you are not sailing on a yacht, you can spend a few days on land too. Or whether you’re seeking blissful relaxation or thrilling adventures outside the yacht, the Seychelles is a tropical paradise that promises an unforgettable experience for all who visit.
You can search for yachts in Seychelles here. There are plenty of offers with big charter companies being present in Mahe and Praslin. We strongly recommend chartering a catamaran in this area, as it will be a lot easier to go thru the coral reefs due to its lower draft (drought) of only 1-1.5m, there will be lots of space to enjoy moments in the sun and also more space to enjoy a drink with friends. Have a look of the available sailing catamarans in Seychelles.
Besides catamarans, there are also motor yachts available to charter in the area, but we prefer the freedom a sailing catamaran has to offer.
